I have the car listed above that I have restored and just had a new 170 CID engine installed. The car has a new fuel pump, radiator hoses, new spark plugs, rotor and points, new coil, new water pump. but the car runs for about 30-40 minutes then stalls. The autolite carbretor was rebuilt, but the car will start after it sits for 30 minutes. No signs or overheating or loss of coolant.

Cant figure out why she stalls after driving her for 30-40 minutes. I can go away for an hour and then she starts right up..

Good evening,

I would inspect all the rubber lines from the tank to the fuel pump and carburetor. It sounds like vapor lock from low fuel pressure. That would come from hoses that are cracked or leaking.

Well Roy I tried what you said, my gas lines and hoses are all new . I put in another new fuel pump and another carburetor . Starts right up runs great for thirty minutes then it stalls and no turning over. I wait an hour for the new engine to cool down and then she starts right again and runs good for another thirty minutes and stalls.. I can't figure this one out.. Any other clues? I have been restoring Fords all my life and this one has me stumped...

It sounds like vapor lock from boiling fuel.

Is the engine running at normal Temp or is it running hot?

It's running normal maybe a slight past the center needle but no overheating of loss of coolant... I think I'm going to try pulling the original gas tank and install a new tank and filter and go from there,, Take it into the shop for a fuel pressure check and check to see if the block is running too hot.. I will keep you posted.. Thanks for taking the time..
Cheers!
