So, I had my at light pop up. Turns out i needed a new trans filter which i did code went away
However, the at code popped up and that's when it read i had a bad shift solenoid a
In trying to find the part based of the code and the Mazda dealership is telling me they don't know what solenoid a is.
I have researched it as much as I can and there are a million diagrams that tell me exactly what solenoid a is for my vehicle! How is this so hard for the dealership to understand and how do I get the solenoid?

Hi,

It sounds like they may want to do the repairs for you. LOL

As far as shift solenoid A, you will need to remove the valve body to access it. Therefore, you need to drain the transmission again and remove the pan.

If you look at pic 1 below, it shows the SS A location in relation to the filter. Pics 2 and 3 are the directions for replacement.

However, before you go to the trouble of replacing it, check to make sure it is actually bad. The remaining pics show the diagnostics.

As far as the part, I believe the shift solenoids are the same. It should be Mazda part number FN01-21-1F1. Check that out and let me know if it helps.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Also, the very last pic may be helpful as well.

Hey Joe!

That's exactly what I said about them wanting the job!!! They want to charge me $200.00 for a diagnostic and then close to $500.00 to fix it.
I'm like no way!
I'm literally telling you what's wrong and the part I need!
I know I have to drop the trans pan again I'm not worried about that!
I finally had them send me their diagram for how they are seeing my transmission and solenoid placement
And after comparing a few other diagrams of my car I figured out it was 21-1g1 on their diagram at least I'm almost 100 percent positive!
The image below is the diagram they sent me so no wonder they couldn't figure out which one I was talking about, but I just feel like if you're a master mechanic at a dealership you should know what I'm telling you especially after explaining it numerous times!!!
And so, looking at one of your pics I'm wondering if you know anything more about the transaxle part.
I ordered a transaxle solenoid I thought but is the transaxle the little piece that clips into the filter!?
I'm just wondering if I should or can replace the transaxle thing since I already bought it
I hadn't planned to but if I'm dropping the pan again and it's not hard to do, I'm wondering if I should just do it!
Thank you for all your help! I appreciate all your help!

Hey Joe!

Also, Mazda gave me the part numbers for all my solenoids!
The number of stars is the number of solenoids with the same part number.
They said there's three the same.
Two the same.
And one was alone.

Hi,

The one I found isn't listed, but there may be a new number superseding the original number. So, they don't know which one you need?

I looked up the number I sent you originally. It has a new number. See pics below. I got the pics off a Mazda website. I am waiting for a reply if Part Number: FN21211F1 is the replacement for shift solenoid A. I'll let you know as soon as I get a reply.

Hang in there. We'll figure it out. From what I am seeing, the differences seem to be how the connector is located.

Let me know if you have made any additional progress.
