I was driving on the interstate car suddenly quit running no signs except I was slowing down put it in neutral tried to start while coasting no go pulled to shoulder. Tried again acted like a weak battery. Got a jump same deal dash lights go dim and hear a sound like starter tried but doesn't turn motor at all. Towed it to auto zone checked codes only one was p0741. Battery is only 6 months or so old. I put the battery in my Dodge 1500 which has been sitting for a few months and it cranked it no problem, so I don't suspect the battery. I read up on the code but can't see how it could cause this problem. Checked oil it was a little low added a quart level good. I can't check transmission fluid since it won't run. Also, the temperature gauge was normal when this happened. Any thoughts?

Good morning,

I would start by removing the plugs and crank the motor to see if it turns normally.

Did you verify the oil level? It sounds like the engine is locking up.

That's what I was trying not to think about. Can I try using a ratchet to turn it I know plugs out would make it easier just thought that would be quicker. Also, if it locked up when driving wouldn't that stop the car while in gear?

No, it would not.

You need to remove the plugs. It will turn hard with the plugs. You need all resistance taken away.

Okay, you have an internal failure in the engine.

You will need either a used engine or a rebuild if that is what you want.

Let me know if you have any other questions
