My vehicle listed above has one code which is P0501. I understand right around my car year they switched vehicle speed sensors. My question' is, since it was scanned my Audi gave code p0501 so should the sensor you get to behind the driver front tire where transmission meets axle correct? My car currently does not have sensor Installed there. Could somebody just have removed it. Or even with the above code, could my car sensor be integrated with the transmission. So not same sensor entirely. Thank you and sorry if I confused with my wording.

Hi,

There are two different speed sensors. One is on the outside of the transmission near the axle. See pic 1. There is also one in the transmission that requires the removal of the transmission oil pan.

So, are you having issues with the speedometer or transmission shifting or both? I ask because the code leads me to both sensors.

Let me know.

Hello,

I will list all symptoms below that I'm experiencing currently with the Audi.
-Speedometer stays at 0 mph at all speeds.
-Odometer does not change.
-Trip reader does not move.
-ABS light illuminated on cluster.
-Traction control light illuminated on cluster.
-Check Engine light illuminated (one code present = P0501).
-During acceleration, a clicking noise clicks, every second, until release of gas pedal.
-Transmission shifts through gears normally; could be smoother. 1 month owning the car.
Thank you, Starsha.

Hi,

It sounds like the external sensor, but if your vehicle doesn't have one there, then it is the internal one.

The lights that are presently on (ABS, traction, and so on) are resulting from the sensor. But I do have a question. You said you hear a clicking sound when accelerating. If you go to a parking area and turn the steering wheel fully in either direction and accelerate, is the sound worse?

Let me know.

Hi Joe,

Sorry for the late response, anyhow I did as you mentioned and the clicking noise did not worsen. In fact, it wasn't audible during that moment.

Hi Joe,

Is it possible there is supposed to be a sensor there and that's why the car gave that code? Should I install the sensor that I bought. I can't see a wiring harness that would go to it though currently, but I did notice an empty space for a connector in line with other connectors right below the coolant res. Could that maybe be where the "missing" wiring harness belongs?
Thank you, Starsha

Hi,

Anything is possible but it is unlikely that the sensor fell out of the transmission.

I attached a pic below with the sensors. Do the wire colors match what you are seeing?

Let me know.

Joe
