They've told me that this P0455 code is either the fuel cap or the vent valve which is next to the fuel tank in the rear of the vehicle. How can I test it or figure out which one is it without having any tools?

Hi,

This code indicates a large leak in the system. The leak will need to be 2.5mm or larger, so in this case, I don't think it's the fuel cap. It's possible, but I have a feeling you have an EVAP hose off, broken, or damaged in some way.

If you look at the pics below, I added the EVAP system schematic (pic 1). Pic 2 shows where the canister purge valve is located on the engine. You will need to remove the plastic cover on top of the engine. Once you do that, locate the purge valve. There will be two hoses going to it. I highlighted them in pic 2. Confirm they are properly connected, not damaged, and not leaking.

Pic 3 shows the charcoal canister which is located on the right side of the fuel tank. The canister and valve are attached via the hoses even though they are in different locations. Do the same thing. Check for issues with the hoses going to it. There will be three on this item. The pic shows a connection for the "purge". That is the one that goes to the canister purge valve. Make sure it is good. Also, make sure there are no holes in hoses, damage to the charcoal canister, or anything that seems damaged.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Yes, it is to the right of the fuel tank. I attached a pic of what it looks like and another pic showing the location. I circled it in the pic.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
