Hi,
On dash a yellow indicator: motor management. Filler cap inspection, nothing wrong, no smells near any 'position' of the car, no visable leaks. Code/indicator light removed, and after 150 miles it was back. Smoke test in garage 'negative', meaning no smoke coming out anywhere.

Good afternoon,

I attached the possibilities for the code.

Are you sure about the year and engine? There was no 5.0 in 2007.

Roy

Hi there,
Sorry, 4.8, right? At the moment the code was given in the garage, they have a computer list attached in their program, which is the same list as you gave. We eliminated all the problems given by you. Most are ruled out because the smoke system was used. The car drives and handles like it should. Found out from the Mustang-club there are follow up codes, so 455, 456 and so on. Besides 'small' or 'giant' vapor leak, those codes each do not lead to one specific failure. The garage cancelled the dash light and it is off now. Last time they did that it came back after a few days.
Regards,
Kees

P.S. situated in the Netherlands, so not really Mustang country. Still, those codes seem the same for all nowadays cars.

Clearing does nothing. The light will return when it fails the 3 trip failure. It takes about a week.

How did they test the purge valve?

I have no idea. What does it do, and should I notice anything when it does not work properly?

It will not function. Did anyone test it individually to see if it is working?

It can pass the smoke test but fail the individual test.

Remove the hose from the valve, remove the electrical connector to the valve. Start the engine and see if you feel vacuum at the open port.

Let me know the result.

Hi Roy,
Just rang the garage, and they did not do as you suggested. As I have just been to the garage yesterday, they advised to drive for a while and see if the light comes on. If it does, we will follow your procedure. I will come back to that, might take a week.
Cheers,
Kees

It will return. They have done no repairs to the system. Clearing the light does nothing but make the PCM forget the code. After it fails the 3 trip test, the light will return.

Hello Roy,
2.5 weeks later, and 'no doubt' 3 trips later, still no yellow light.
