Recently, my dash lit up red saying 2 messages - RSC failure and Brake System Needs Servicing (something to this effect). I took the car to Firestone who did a diagnostic and told me code B1342 needing replacement, which, they said referred to the ABS. Total cost for complete repair: $2,200.00. To replace the electronic module: $1,200.00. Is this reasonable? Is it right?

After I drive the vehicle, I have been smelling a burning smell. Could some of the ABS wiring be compromised?

I have attached the price of the module along with the labor of two hours, maybe an extra hour for any programming, reset of the stability control (if equipped). Most shops charge anywhere from one hundred to one forty per hour. I'll let you be the judge. Also, many shops will want to replace the entire hydraulic control unit, but you can replace just the ECU by itself. and yes, B1342 is a code for failing for any Ford module.

Hello, I'm Danny.

I looked up that code number and it relates to the ABS- anti lock brake system electronic module being defective. $2,200.00 seems quite high in price for the repair. I've attached a parts and labor description below. Depending on the area you live most shop labor rates are $100.00 an hour. The labor guide shows a 2 hour repair and the part is $688.00. I would think the total repair should be around $1,000.00 not as much as you've been quoted. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
