Code 043

Hi,

Normally when temperature is related to an issue like this is an electrical issue. If you follow this flow chart it shows that power and ground circuits are most likely the cause.

The other possible cause is the BPMV itself. Again, we will need to do some more testing when this is active. This code is a code saying the control unit is the issue but again, we would need to test power and ground of the module when the light is on so we can make sure the issue is in the module itself.

How often is this active?

Right now it is on all the the time. It started when the temperature started dropping around the low forties. It has gotten up to 80 degrees during the day a couple of times lately but the check engine light stays on.It starts and runs good . I did have to change a bad fuel regulator yesterday because it was long starting and running a little rough just recently . Some of the new parts installed in the last year are, all new distributor, cap, rotor, coil,idle air control valve, and intake manifold temperature sensor. Could it be a knock sensor? And where would you check grounding issues? Thanks for responding.

Today it reached 80 plus degrees out and when I went to drive it today, the check engine light was on again, code 043, but went out after driving it a little while. I noticed it was kind of sputtering at about half throttle until it reached operating temperature , and then ran like a champ but the code 043 and check engine light was back after going home and shutting it off for about an hour and restarting it again. I did find a ground wire coming from the wire loom next to the firewall on the passenger side and bolted it to the engine with no change in status.

I suspect you have an issue with one of the knock sensors as you mentioned.

Thanks for replying back. I installed a new knock sensor on the drivers side cylinder head and that so far has stopped the check engine light coming on and is running a little better. I realized after removing the electrical connector to that knock sensor that the middle of the sensor where the connector attaches was coming out and lose. Hopefully that was it.
