Hi Willy,

You have a leak in the clutch hydraulic system. I would agree that I would not drive it until you find the leak and repair it. The largest reason is because you most likely have air in the system now because clutch systems require to be bleed. With out that the clutch will not work properly because air compresses in the line and fluid does not. This is why we use fluid for these system. If not corrected it could leave you stranded again. Plus, a leak never cures itself. It only gets worse.

The way to find a leak is to simply inspect it. The fluid leaked out somewhere and if you follow the lines from the reservoir and master cylinder, down to the transmission and then into the slave cylinder, you will find a far amount of fluid which shows where the leak is coming from.

how much does it cost to fix a master cylinder?

Looks like you can get the parts for a complete clutch replacement, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, master cylinder for $147.00. This is from an online source so I am sure the prices will vary a little but should not be much more than this for the complete system. As for the labor, it shouldn't be more than a couple hours to do it so that depends on the facilities door rate. If you take that and multiply by two plus the parts you should be pretty close.

Just the master cylinder I found on the same site for $10.00 to $30.00.

If you found there was no fluid and you had to fill it then the fluid went somewhere because this is a sealed system and does not use up the fluid. It remains in the system until it either leaks out due to a failed component or you change it as maintenance.

Short answer is, if there is a leak, bleeding the clutch will not work. The fluid will just leak out again and you will be in the same position you are now. If there is no leak, then bleeding it will get the clutch operating again assuming all the components are okay.
