Clutch very loose

Today I got the master cylinder of my car listed above changed at a mechanic.. After it was done it drove normally.. however this evening i started the car and pressed the clutch and it felt very loose.. moreover, the gears didn't shift in... after trying again i managed to shift the gear in and drive.. However the clutch is still very loose.. the only way I can explain is that its similar to when you changed the clutch cable..

My question is, is it normal for a clutch to become very loose after changing a master cylinder?

No, that isn't normal. It could be caused by a couple things. First, make sure the fluid level for the clutch master cylinder is full. If it is low, check for leaks. Next, there could be air in the system, but since it worked correctly at first, chances are that isn't the issue. If the master cylinder is full, no leaks, and no air, I suspect either they got a bad part or the slave cylinder is bad. Usually, a bad slave will result in a leak. So, if you notice the fluid is low, check to see if you notice anything leaking.

Thanks for both the welcome and the reply. It turned out to be air in the system. The mechanic forgot to remove it and forgot to also warn me about. I went there and he removed it manually.

You are very welcome. I'm glad you got it fixed. Interestingly, air in the system doesn't normally act that way, but it can. Usually, if there is air in the system, it stays there and the symptoms don't change. Since you said it worked correctly for a short time, that's why I put air in the system at the bottom of the list. I hope that makes sense.
