My clutch won't pop back it just stays on the floor now the mechanic wants to replace the master and slave cylinder (understandable). My question is what does any of this have to do with the transmission?...

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Indirectly, it deals with the transmission. The clutch on your vehicle is hydraulic. When you depress the clutch pedal, fluid is forced from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder. The slave reacts and release the clutch from the engine allowing you to shift gears.

Here is a very detailed link about how the clutch works. It discusses both the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
