The arm at the end of the clutch linkage that goes into the clutch housing is shaking and jumping. If I put downward pressure on the arm the shaking stops. She shifts in and out of gear with no problem. I’ve tried adjusting the linkage and put a new retention spring on but neither helped. Do I need a new throw out bearing or is this a linkage problem. Thanks, Awgeez

Good morning,

Can you post a picture of the piece that is jumping around?

I would check the motor mounts to be sure the motor is what is causing it to move around.

It sounds like a linkage issue if it's only the release lever moving. The only thing that holds that end of the clutch adjuster into the clutch fork is pressure from the linkage and the springs. If the retaining spring 13, is good and the pivot ball 12 is good then I would look at the pivot bushings in the cross shaft for play 9,11 and 18, they tend to wear fast on the older Jeeps.

Thanks Steve, I’ll try and check those bushings out this weekend. I’ll let you know how I make out.
