What should i check usually when there is a clunking noise while stopped and just shaking the steering wheel right and left slightly?

Hi,
Where the steering shaft goes through the firewall to attach with the rack and pinion, there is a universal joint. Have a helper move the steering back and forth while you watch to see if that is where the noise is coming from. (see pic below).
Also, the firewall pivot point may be the issue as well. There is an updated part specific to this.
