If i disconnect the battery, the radio goes into lock mode and have to go to a GMC dealer to unlock it. Have a dealer that does it for $50.00. Can I avoid the radio going into lock mode by putting twelve amp battery into cigarette lighter? Or the battery must be disconnected to avoid the airbag from deploying?

Purchase an Automotive Settings Keeper (also called a computer memory keeper). It uses a nine volt battery to keep the radio from losing its "memory" while the vehicles' battery is disconnected (usually costs around $10.00 or so, depending on where you purchase it you may have to buy the nine volt battery separately).

To disarm the airbag system:
Turn the steering wheel so the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight-ahead.
Turn the ignition switch to the "lock" position.

Remove or disconnect the following:
Ignition key
Airbag fuse from the instrument panel fuse block.
Left-hand sound insulator .
Connector retainer and yellow two way connector at the base of the steering column.
Right-hand sound insulator, if equipped with passenger side air bags.
Connector retainer and yellow two way connector from the passenger inflator module pigtail, if equipped with passenger side air bags .

Okay, I attached a wiring diagram for you to view.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-wiring

You need to go to the relay and test for power. It sounds like the relay itself may be stuck closed.
