Is this with the actuator in the car or out of the car?

When it is installed, it will learn the sweep once it is commanded.

Yes and no, I removed the old one and plugged in the new one. I left the actuator loose and in my hand. It would rotate 360 degrees constantly and intermittently rotate even when power was not applied. Since I took apart the other actuator I know that it consists of only a simple motor and gear set. It has no means to stop running unless it is given a command, it does not rotate into closed and stop as it should.

Mount the actuator and see what happens.

This sounds like the control head as that is what controls the signal to the actuator.

You will need to replace them together or at the same time. Install the actuator before testing it. Do not test it off the door.

No signal goes to this motor. Power is the only thing it operates off of. The "signal" is merely an input demand that the driver dials in the control head coordinator give the required voltage to the motor so it can make minute motor movements. So, if you have a bad control panel and your unmounted motor spins and never stops, if you mount it with these full inputs, it strips out.

Power is the signal. When you command the door to change, a signal or power is sent to the motor to work in the direction of the command.

2000 Chevrolet Impala heater direction not working. Control panel is new. Doesnt matter if you put on deforst, floor or face it blows out floor. I was told there is a servo motor that is located in the dash and very difficult to get to. Where can i get instructions on replacing this part?

The 2000 HVAC is actuated by vacuum. Check under the dash for disconnected, damaged, or broken vacuum hoses. I have attached a list of where the vacuum hoses go to help. Let me know what you find.

PS: It isn't real easy to check these. They are up and under the dash. If you are lucky, with the engine running you may hear a hissing sound that would indicate a leak.

2004 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My son has 2004 Impala with a 3.4. The heater was blowing, but was only cold air. I had the thermostat replaced but it didn't solve the problem. I then realized that he had dual interior heat controls, and the passenger side was was blowing hot, with only the drivers side blowing cold. Would this 'simply' be the contriller unit with the slide bar (on this model) that controls the drivers side? I have a haynes auto repair guide, and it doesn't look terribly difficult to remove the parts of the dash to get to this unit, but i don't know how accurate that book is.

My AC/Heat/Rear Defroster control unit worked great until the last month when it started working intermittently. It finally died 3 days ago. Now nothing works! I installed a brand new control unit today but the rear defroster/AC/Heat/Blower controls still don't work. I noticed the outside air and inside air buttons on this control unit are BOTH lit up at the same time but when you turn the dial to the front defrost only position the inside air button lights up and when you turn the control to vent or floor position the outside air button lights up. Unfortunately, I still can't get anything to work! This is a vacuum and electronic control unit. What should I look for next?

first check to see if yo havea vacuum leak then check yoru actuators on the hvac unit. they may be vacuum or electric operated

right heater control not allowing heat to come through on passenger side. but works fine for air. Note, this car is equipped with dual (heat/air) controls. one for drivers side, one for the passenger side, and electrically varies the heat or air through these controls for left or right side of car. I have checked, and all vaccuum motors are working. What kind of electrical problem might I have other than the right switch control itself?

your blend door actuator, or the blend door itself is not working right.

Recently ..off and on.. my cruise and AC panel controls will either not come on or may cut off while driving. They don't stay off but it's aggravating. I read in manual that these are controlled by same fuse. What could be causing them to do this? And how do I fix it? Other than the fuse itself. Thanks!!

Replace fuse vey hard to see a fault in ATO fuse. If problem then ignition switch is causing fault.

When Heater controls are set to heat-Driver side blows cold air and passager side heats,Whats the problem with driver side

The divertor or blend door inside ducts is stuck or not working.

These doors blend air and divert air to vents or to bottom.

Part of dash will have to be removed to repair.

If you turn everything to max cooling the noise goes away immediately. Sometimes you can just touch the car (no ignition turned on, not sitting in the car) and the flapping starts. It will then go off in a minute or so. Help?

No varmint. Been doing this for 6 months. Always does it when you first start the engine, if you don't turn the a/c to max, it will stop in a few minutes.

i would guess hvac door cycling but you say it does it even OFF? that seems strange.

Either the hvac blend door aor temp door or something in the blower wheel. Un plug just the blower motor and see if you still hear it if you do start checking blend doors

I have a 2001 impala and when i have the heater on it only works on defrost, when i move the selector to a different position it does not change. any ideas what this might be?

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Check under the hood for a disconnected or damaged vacuum line. The controls are vacuum operated and if the vacuum supply is cut off the system defaults to defroster only. Some vacuum lines may also be located inside of dash.

ok checked all vacuum lines and they are all connected, and i cant see any cuts or tears in any of them, and as of 8 am saturday i am now getting a very low putout even though the speed selector is on 5

If no vacuum leak is present and the vacuum controlled motors in dash are operating, test the control switch itself. Ensure it is getting power and working properly as you switch through the speed settings.
