Got the car home same thing with climate control display off and XM radio turned off, headlights flickering and checked engine light turned on and flickered too. Today checked engine light stay on with a P0640 code.

Hi,

The electrical issue sounds like a loose connection. Have you checked to make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight? Also, under the dash there is a fuse box. Check to make sure the HVAC fuse for the controller is tight.

I need some clarification. Your heading indicates the power outlet went out and in the post you say the XM radio went out. Is this an aftermarket XM unit plugged into the aux power outlet?

Now here is something you will likely find interesting. Read through this. It is right out of my manual.

P0640
Invalid Diagnostic Trouble Code

This vehicle does NOT generate this Trouble Code.

Alldata Editor Note: There is one in particular after market Scantool that still has not been updated and generates these and other Invalid DTC codes.

We've talked with numerous Alldata users, and they've told us that the work-around is to use the DTC description, and find a code that matches it. A number of our users have used Code P1640 (close match to P640) when the description matches a Quad Driver 1 Problem.

Our suggestion is:
1. If you have a second Scantool in the shop from a different manufacturer, it will probably read the Datastream correctly and generate a proper code.
If you don't have access to a second Scantool,

2. Call you Scantool manufacturer and let them advise you on a proper course of action.

_______________

Let me know if you have a different scan tool that you can access to rescan the computer.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. When the code came up it was for the Quad driver one problem. With the P0640 radio is a aftermarket that plugs into the aux cig lighter. The green light on the cord when the unit turns off by it self. I was a bad ground some where but not sure if I am barking up the wrong tree. Ground g202 ties the ashtray and heater controls together.

That was one of my first thoughts. Have you checked that ground?

Hi,

Chances are it is a loose or corroded connection at some point. The frustrating part is you may have to wait until it gets bad enough to be able to locate it.

Regardless, let me know if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe
