You mention in your article about the actuator that controls the defroster can fail/malfunction subsequent to battery replacement or other electrical system repair. Would this happen immediately or could it be weeks after? I had the alternator replaced in early January. The "knocking" of what my mechanic suspects is the actuator began today, just over a month from when the battery was disconnected for the repair.

Hello,

Yes, it can happen weeks later. If you have a part that is getting weak through the natural procession of ageing, and was worn in with a weak battery, and suddenly a new battery is put in, all the sudden the full electrical current is making the part work as if it were new. Depending on how worn the actuator is, will determine how long after the battery replacement the actuator will fail.
