clicking noise

When I get to about forty mph I hear a clicking noise. New CV axle on left side still hear it not to sure if it is coming from the driver side or not or if it might be coming from transmission. Any one know what it could be? The noise also happens when I put the transmission in first gear. It sounds like a clicking/popping noise.

check wheel bearings, drive in a large circle one way then other if sound comes on heavy in one direction check on opposite side.
