Hi, I am helping my friend with his vehicle listed above, trying to figure out a clicking noise. at first we thought it was valve adjustment, but nothing still there. The noise start when you turn on the engine and when you press on the gas it gets loud and when it shifts gears it goes away.

Hi,

Is the oil clean and full? I have to be honest, it sounds like a rod-bearing noise or a lifter noise. Take a look through this link and let me know if anything mirrors what you are experiencing:

Also, have you checked oil pressure?

Let me know.

Hi,

You will need a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Most parts stores will lend you one. All you do is remove the electric oil pressure sensor and screw in the mechanical one. If you look at the attachments below, they include the directions specific to this vehicle for testing. They also include the manufacturer's specs.

Also, if you find it is low, take a look through this link and let me know if it helps:

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe

Hi, so we did the oil pressure test and I checked out good. Do you have a diagram on how to check the lifters?

Hi,

The only thing is the rocker arm inspection. Take look below at the attachments. They explain how to test them.

Let me know if this is what you wanted. Also, the last two pics explain how to remove the rocker arm assembly.

I have a question, can we just change one rocker arm? Or it's recommended to change all of them? We hear the clicking noise louder coming from cylinder 2. I use a mechanical stethoscope.

Hi,

Yes, you can do it that way. However, do you notice any play in any of the parts that could cause the noise? It could be a few different things. A worn camshaft or even what I mentioned earlier. Check things out first to confirm something feels loose. When you do, make sure the valves for that cylinder are fully closed so there is no pressure on the rocker arm.

I attached the directions below for the removal and replacement of the rockers. The last pic is the replacement. It starts on number six because it was from camshaft replacement directions. They don't have it listed separately.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
