Engine Performance problem

My wife bought a 2005 citroen xsara picasso second hand. The engine light keeps lighting up.
The dealer's macanic said it was one of the coil pacs that were faulty. As this was only an intermediate problem in the beginning, we went on his word and changed the coil pac. We thought the problem were gone but in recent weeks it got only worse. As soon as the light comes on, the car looses power. It is so bad now that the car only
reaches 60km/h. Please can someone help.
