I took a friend's car out, it was running low on fuel, so I pulled over into a gas station. I put two gallons of petrol into the tank and drove on.
Two days later, I discovered that the friend's car, a Citroen Zsara, has a diesel engine. In the intervening period she had had her car serviced and it seemed to be running ok. I know that if you put diesel into a petrol engine it will mess up the engine because the diesel will not ignite as petrol does. But could I have done my friend's diesel car irreparable damage by putting petrol into the tank, or will it survive the experience?
I don't want to worry her unnecessarily by telling her if it will be ok, but if she needs to get the tank emptied, I want to tell her as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
S
