Noises problem

Hi Guys,
Peuteot 206 diesel!
Theres a terrible vibration coming from somewhere underneath the gear stick area. I can really hear it in first and second gear. The higher the revs the louder it gets. Usually its only noticeable over 2000 RPM in 1st and 2nd. I had a mechanic check it but he wasn't able to find the problem. Any ideas???
