1995 Citroen AX Engine keeps stalling

1995 Citroen AX

Hi,

When I apply the accelerator, the engine will stall. I tested it today and the engine sounds very weak, almost as if it is struggling. I was just wondering whether anyone could offer any explanation to what is wrong and whether it is going to be a costly repair?
