Resetting computer

The lights are on because there's a problem. Resetting a computer won't make it go away.

There is at least one diagnostic fault code memorized in the ABS computer that will lead the mechanic to the circuit or system with the problem, not the specific part. Doing anything to the computer could erase the code and that valuable diagnostic information will be lost.

Once the problem is repaired, the mechanic will use their hand-held computer to erase the codes. That will turn the lights off.

Changing out ignition, old key was grey. New key is black. Now van won't start solid red light on dash. How do you reset the computer? We have unhooked battery for several hours and still cannot get the van to start now.

As you changed out the ignition and now have a new key you need to program the new keys into the SKIM computer. For that you need a dealer level scan tool that can program keys or the usually easier process is to have a automotive locksmith come out and program the new keys into the system, If you only have one key you will need a second one as the system needs a minimum of 2 keys programmed in to operate. There is no DIY method of programming in the new keys as you need 2 valid keys in the system to be able to add any keys and with a different cylinder you have no valid keys at the moment.

my service engine soon light stays on. I checked it out by using the OBD2 code reader and all it came up with was, No DTCs presently stored in this computer. what does this mean and what can I do about it

you can try to erase it with the scan tool, there is an engine code erase feature. also a check engine light can mean many things and sometimes a sensor could just be going bad and wont store in the computer, but I dont believe that is the case. try to erase it and keep me posted, or if you dont know how go to autozone, to have it erased, or you can go to your local parts place to do that. you could have a vacuum leak that will cause an engine light and not set a code
