Hi,

In the past year my car loses power steering when I back out of parking spots. Usually this happens after/during rain. My mechanic replaced both the rack and pinion and the pump. Yesterday during a very heavy rain I lost the steering when backing up again. It kicks back in after I go back and forward a couple times to get out of the spot.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Thank you very much

The most common problem is the belt gets wet. There is a plastic shield that covers the belts, but many times they get dammaged and allow water to get to the belt. What I suggest is to check that and make sure the belt is tight. I believe you have a serp belt on the van but a seperate belt for the PS pump. Check to make sure it is tight.

Let me know what you find.
