2000 Chrysler Town and Country 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Need to replace the right rear axel shaft of my mini van and need to know how to do this. any information would be appreciated. thank you

The rear joint is held on with 6 bolts to the stub shaft in the rear differential. The outer joint has a nut, washer, anti-rattle washer, lock washer, and cotter pin that must be removed, then the shaft can be pulled out toward the center of the vehicle. You might not even have to remove the wheel.

One word of warning: Although it can physically be done, DO NOT LOOSEN THE AXLE NUT WITHOUT RAISING THE TIRE OFF THE GROUND. These bolt-on style wheel bearings will become noisy if they support the weight of the vehicle without being held together with the cv joint.
