I was told that the "D" (Over Driver) on gear shift should be used only on highway driving and "3" should be in town where you expect to start and stop. Is this true?

Also, when going down the highway it seems to jerk a little once in a while and was told it was a Tork Convertor?

Could these be right?

Thanks so much
