1998 Chrysler Town and Country Engine shuts down in drive

If the light is on, what code are you getting from the computer?

code from computer showed p1391 camshaft or crankshaft position sensor intermittent loss..we replaced both sensors..engine still stalls when in drive

Is the same engine code coming back?

dont know..we borrowed a small computerized gadget that showed that code but returned it. I suppose we need to borrow it again?

Sorry about that. It would be helpful if we knew if a new code came up or it is still the old one. If it is the old one, then we need to start checking wiring. Before that, believe me, you'll want to make sure you are still looking at the same problem.

Hi we borrowed the computerized gadget again and its showing the same codes as it did before we replaced the sensors..

then the problem either lies in the wiring or the PCM. Check the wiring to both the crank and cam sensors for damage, corrosion... Also, make sure the wiring harness to the PCM is tight, clean, and free of corrosion.

The PCM is the heart of the electronic control system. It is a Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is a digital computer containing a microprocessor. The PCM recieves input signals from various switches and sensors that are referred to as PCM inputs. Based on these inputs, the PCM adjusts various engine and vehicle operations through devices that are referred to as PCM outputs. It may also control the shift functions of the electronically controlled automatic transmission. I believe yours is located behind the battery mounted to the inner fender. It will have a 40 pin connector.

We have checked everything as suggested..no corrison and everything is connected tight..

The last thing to do is have the PCM tested.

i would have to take it to a auto repair shop for that?

Just wanted to clarify about when the engine shuts down..if it makes a difference..
when you put it in drive, it will go about 10-15 mph and will run til it gets hot (after 15 minutes or so) then the engine shuts down..

I hate to say it, but you need to take it and have it diagnosed. Everything we discussed is working properly.
