how do you get your defrost to work properly. how much does it cost to have a mechanic fix it or is there a cheap way to get it fixed yourself.

i think the problem is with the fan. i can turn the defrost on let the car warm up then in the next five minutes the side windows are all fogged up. its even worse when it rains, all windows get fogged up quickly. i would have the defrost on and its doesnt do anything.
