I was going to replace the thermostat and found that it is at the bottom hose instead of the top hose but while removeing the top hose I had to take the air intake off. now there is steam coming from the top of the motor and out the sides of the intake. I am going to try takeing it back off and on again to make sure it is seated properly as soon as it quits snowing. But i was wondering if there is other damage now because of that. Also what is the housing at the end of the top hose where the heater hose joins in. that peice leaks and I need to replace it as well.

It sounds like you have an intake gasket leak. Go to a local parts store and tell them you want to pressure test the cooling sustem. Most will lend or rent the tool to you. Pressurize it (WHEN IT IS COLD) and see if you can find any leaks.

As far as the housing at the end of the upper hose, it is the thermostat housing.

Let me know what you find.
