2002 Chrysler Sebring transmission jerk/kick

To better assist you is your model a limited, LX or LXi. Also the engine size in liter.

Please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O’Reilly’s (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator.

its an LX with a 2.4 dohc.
Also, this is my son's car when i test drove it i could only get it to do it using the brake. I just spoke with him and he says it will also do it now and then when not using brake (coasting deceleration)
Also, there are no trouble lights on.
What if there are no pending codes either?

The light does not have to be on to throw a code…….

Were you able to check to see if it had any codes in it?

Meanwhile, I will pull up the manual and do some checking.

Got a code of P0601 out of it.
"int. control module checksum error".

Looked it up and it said this is the PCM (power train control module), could be it, it's programming or an of the devices that run off of it.
I also spoke to a local guy who owns a trans shop and teaches auto mech at our local community collage. (spoke to him before I knew of code)
He says the transmission solenoid is bad. Says it's common on sebring/chrysler. Says he has no doubt.

Only thing is I have seen this problem with other sebrings on the net and people have replaced thier solenoid and still had same problem.

I have attached what I have………

DTC P0600: PCM FAILURE SPI COMMUNICATIONS OR DTC P0601: INTERNAL CONTROLLER FAILURE
NOTE: For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS to ensure system is functioning properly.
Monitored & Set Conditions
Communication between processors over internal BUS and internal controller operation are monitored with ignition on. DTC P0600 will set if PCM senses bus communication failure between processors. DTC P0601 will set if PCM senses internal checksum for software failed and does not match calculated value.
Possible Causes
• PCM Internal Or SPI
Testing
The PCM is reporting internal errors. Replace PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING

Have they said which solenoid is bad……..that may be related but as you see above, that is not what I am getting………..

There is a test for the PCM but you would need a scan tool. You might try looking at the wiring really good all around the PCM for chaffing, loose connections etc.

After that you may have to have it checked. If you do need one, I have attached a website that may have them at a reduced cost. I had another customer use this and they were extremely pleased.

The only other thing I can suggest is have the transmission shop check it out. Many check them out for free………..

Thought i would let you know what happened with this. Replaced the trans solenoid and it did no good.
Took to a transmission shop who diagnoeses and checks it for free. They put it on their computer system. their computer showed that the cars computer "shift points" were not correct.
They put the cars computer into "quick learn mode" then drove the car 1 mile.
All fixed, no more problem, cost to repair-no charge.

The shop said they diagnose for free and they were in this process when they corrected it so they were not going to charge. total repair time: 10 minutes.

Hey - one more thing. Also, it looks like you may have a recall on your vehicle. The dealer may fix this for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on this to see if it applies to you.
