I came out I got absolutely nothing when I turn the key

I live in Detroit (burr) and have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Covertible. It has only 60,000 miles on it has always run great. The other day I parked it in the garage and in the morning when I came out I got absolutely nothing when I turn the key other than the dash showing the mileage. No sound , no starter solinoid clicking, nothing. I called the local dealer who had no idea what it might be. The battery is fully charged and I have headlights. Any idea what it could be and where to even start looking????

Hi Johnrmclean,

Since there is no cranking, there is a possibility power is not getting to the ignition switch or no output from the ignition switch due to bad internal switch contacts. Try this link and let me know the results so I can provide the necessary assistance.

Duh!!
We checked the starter relay but never the under the hood fuses. It turned out to be a blown 20A start/fuel fuse. What does this fuse protect that could cause it to blow should the problem happen again?

Just to confirm this so I don't go on a wild goose chase. 1. The diagrams are correct ? 2. Fuse mentioned is # 22 ?

Yes that is the right fuse box.
I belive 22 is the right fuse but can't tell what number goes where from the disagram.
It is the 4th fuse from the left, pasenger side, in the row directly above the fuel pump relay going towards the windshield. There are only 4 bus type fuses in this short row. Starting on the passenger side the first 2 fuses are 20A, then a 10A then this one which is a 20A. Hope that helps confirm what you were thinking.

It supplies power to the Fuel Pump Relay, Starter Relay and Ignition switch.

Hi,

So we have what we want and knows the problem.

There is nothing we can do to prevent fuses from blowing as they are meant to blow when something is wrong and it could be due to overheating or it could mean something is on its way out and it would happen again.

Since it supplies power to the various relays and ignition switch, any one of it could be failing causing the problem. If it is a one off, then it could be due to overheating and over long periods of time, it fails. The only thing you can do is to check the fuse for signs of overheating and if there are any, replacing the fuse as a precaution would help.
