2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser engine revs up wont idle down

the engine idles way too high and it surges as if the gas pedal was stuck but its not. it wants to idle about 60mph. can you tell me whats wrong and approximately waht it will cost to have it fixed at the dealer

This is typical of a vacuum leak. Look for vacuum hoses that are disconnected or cracked. I recently saw a 1" section of intake manifold gasket missing on a 1990 Caravan 3.3L that caused it to cruise at 35 mph without touching the gas pedal.

When the engine is still cold, use a squirt bottle to spray water around gaskets and hoses. When you find the leak, the water will get sucked in harmlessly and engine speed will come down.
