2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser rear hatch will not open

Hi--While shutting my rear hatch recently, the door slammed shut with the latch handle in the "up" position. The key and remote will lock and unlock, however since the handle is now always in the up position, the door will not open. There is no latch or way to open from the inside...please help--Thanks, Steve
