I recently bought a used 2000 Neon and it was working great. One day while driving, however, the check engine light came on and the temperature gauge dropped all the way to the pin. Checking trouble codes gave me P0117 - ECT Sensor Voltage too low.

I did some searching around and it appeared that the problem was a faulty ECT sensor so we took the old one out and put a new one in (we also changed the coolant) and the car worked perfectly again. Now, while driving today, the same thing happened again. This time though, the problem was intermittent, the gauge would read a fine temperature before falling to the pin again. I have no idea what the problem here could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

I would be checking for a faulty electrical connection on the sensor terminal or a loose or corroded pin in the terminal plug.
