2000 Chrysler LHS Power Steering problem

I have the exact same problem, have you had any luck with a repair?

the problem is the rack and pinion sorry and its not a cheap fix chrysler tends to have a rack and pinion problem

I had the exact same problem. I removed the steering gear (no small task) and had it rebuilt by an auto parts place in Burbank, CA for $115. And I'm sure that it would have worked perfectly, if I hadn't put in the wrong fluid. Every expert I asked gave me a different answer (including Chrysler dealership parts managers).

Do NOT use ATF+3 or +4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid).
Do NOT use Dextron/Mercon, or anything with Teflon in it.
Do NOT use just any common market Power Steering Fluid.

Only USE Chrysler's MOPAR Power Steering Fluid.
It's like $15 a quart, at any Chrysler dealership's parts department.

Also, there is is distinct advantage to having your original rack rebuilt vs. purchasing a new (or newly rebuilt) part — first, the $$$ savings, and second, it fits back in with no surprises.

Well, almost no surprises. I still have zero power assist, even though I am using the correct fluid — Chrysler's MOPAR Power Steering Fluid.

I suspect it might be a clogged filter, or a bad pump.
(I have a similar thread/question running in this forum, and have asked for help there....)
