When installiing new disc brakes and rotors, we inadvertently broke one of the metal clip/clasp, which was attached to the old brakes and with the caliper. (Each wheel only had one of these clips/clasps.) Braking and stopping seems fine, with all wheels, but must i replace this part asap. A friend thought that it might affect my braking when backing up, not so much when going forward. This metal clip resembles a giant paper clip, but of course much more thicker.
If needed, can this part be ordered or is it part of a Le Braon brake kit and/or would it be adequate to obtain a replacement from a junk yard?? What purpose does this part serve?
Thank You,

the clip is to prevent the brake pads from making ratteling noise, when the brakes are not pressed, it is annoying, but not dangerous, when the clips are off
