Engine Mechanical problem

My gas guage read near empty, so I pulled up to Circle K gas station to fill up. Set the catch on the nozzel so that it would fill w/out my holding it. While the tank was filling, I started a conversation w/the guy filling his tank on the opposite side of the pump.

As we were talking, he noticed that he was standing in a BIG pool of gas- that apparently was leaking from his side of the pump. He went to report this to the clerk, who confirmed that indeed it was leaking.

Meanwhile, my gas had stopped filling at $7.36, even though my tank had been nearly empty! I reported to the clerk that her pump seemed to be empty. She said that was impossible- that they had just filled today.

I got into the car to move to another pump or another station. The car STARTED, but when I put it into gear, it WOULD NOT MOVE. Tried repeatedly. Nuthin'.

Got towed to my home. When tow driver unloaded the car, he was able to move it a few inches to park it. So at this point, it possibly WILL move (I haven't tried yet), but I do not want to risk damaging anything if indeed the problem was/is that I got bad gas.

Do you think the stall was caused by bad gas?
What do you recommend that I do?
Have you ever heard of gas stations taking responsibility for this?
This is an old car- I don't want to take any risks of causing any major damage.

Many thanks in advance!
(ps- can I mail a donation? I don't have a paypal act)

I would call and talk to the manager or owner of the station. this would be a typical bad gas scenario as raare as they are. Perhaps you can agree on a mutual service station to confirm it or maybe they will just take care of it. The times I have seen it happen there were multiple cars that had problems and the gas station fixed them at their cost.
