I have a 1987 chrysler le Baron 2.2L turbo charged that makes a noise that almost sounds like a flat tire or a knocking sound. It makes the noise intermitently but when it is making the noise the car is accelorating you can also hear it when I let off the gas and the car is slowing down. I just got both of the CV half shaft assemblies replaced because I had one pull out The noise started when the the driver side cv half shaft pulled out. It doesn't seem to interfer with the steering. When the cv half shaft pulled out it made the noise I am refering to and started to shake and pull to the drivers side which interfered with the steering.

hmm well I just had a similar problem (noise with my dodge ram 1500 4x4) As I went down the road it would clunk and it was my U joint, axle, and track bar.

I don't know.... I had the track bar just replaced last year so I doubt thats it. Both CV half shaft axiles were replaced just last week and the car is front wheel drive so we don't have u joints.

if the cv joint pulled out while diving theres a good chance its suffered damage. your differential is probably starting to fail and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

The drivers side shaft is held to the side gear with a spring c-clip, if the support bearing that the shaft slides into (and i'm betting on this) has a rough ball bearing it will pop the shaft out again. It is not to difficult to replace the output shaft bearing and available aftermarket
