My 1987 Lebaron all of a sudden has had some problems. When I got to start it, it starts just fine, idles really high for a short while then dies (power loss light comes on). If I leave my foot on the gas pedal, it stays running, until i let up on it, then it dies again. Sometimes it will run for about 5 minutes, then gradually idle lower and die.

I just had my fuel pressure regulator changed about a year ago. I don't think it is my fuel pump as I can hear it "turn on" when i am about to turn my car over. I have been told it could be my fuel filter.

Does anyone have an insight into this?

Other than the diesel trucks, you will never solve a running problem on a Chrysler product by replacing the fuel filter. High mileage fuel pumps fail to start. They rarely fail while they're running. Pressure regulators give tons of trouble on GM vehicles, but hardly ever on Chryslers.

You have the clue staring you in the face. Have your mechanic connect a hand-held computer to retrieve the diagnostic fault code(s) in the engine computer's memory. The problem was detected and the computer turned on the Power Loss light to let you know.
