2000 Chrysler Intrepid Sounds like a sticking valve

Hi, I have my car sitting stored for the winter and I start it every now and then and then drive it around the block. This time I noticed a loud knocking sound coming from the middle of the engine. It somewhat disappears at high revs, but still somewhat noticable. When the car idle goes back to normal, it reappears after about 1 minute. Do you know what it is? As well there is a brown foam around the oil filler cap.

When you check the oil, is there a creamy mixture on the dipstick?

No there is no creamy mixture on the dipstick, it is just around the filler cap.

Hi:
If it is only the cap, chances are the PCV valve needs replaced because it isn't taking the moisture from the engine.

As far as the knock, it could be a rod or main bearing. Without hearing it, I can't tell. Most mechanics will be able to tell you quickly.

Let me know what you find.

When you change it, make sure the hose to it is clean and not plugged too. I doubt this has anything to do the noise. Have you had it looked at?

Hi, had the PVC changed and it now looks good. I had the noise looked at by a mechanic and he said it was the timing chain adjuster making the noise. He replaced it and the noise went away. He indicated that because it was oil pressured that I should be changing my oil more often as a cause of this happening is dirt and grunge getting in behind the adjuster.
