Do power mirrors work?If yes do you have antenna that goes up when radio is on> if yes rear defogger is powered by module on right side trunk. Should have 12v black/blue wire

Power mirrors work, no power antenna.

I've looked in the trunk and couldn't find any type of relay on the right or left side.

Once before I had the rear seat out, it appeared the grid wire went under the carpet toward the front of the car.

It was hard to see, it was taped/wrapped up to other wrapped wires that did lead into the trunk

Up to that point the grid wire was black and white.

Guess I could pull the seats out again and look again.

BTW not sure if it matters but the Chrysler intrepid is a Canadian model

You won't have relay no power antenna. Power comes from switch to right side of grid by black/white wire. comes along right door seals up behind seat then into head liner to widow. Connector should be at seat. Also ground on left rear fender

yeah I just took the seats out and looked in the trunk. nada

Passenger side of grid is grounded to the body behind a panel.

Driver side is a connector with a black/wht stripe wire that goes behind the rear seat, under the carpet/door sills up to the driver side kick panel, from there I have no idea where to look.


Is the BCM connected to this ?

Maybe the ac control/relay is powered backwards?

BCM not part of wiring just switch timer wire to window and ground. try checking at switch for power.

Pretty sure the switch works, lights up and the relay clicks.

I think the relay is relaying NEG power, I'm not sure if there is anything between the AC wiring and the defrost wire.

I think the relay is currently setup like this

Df wire or something else
Pos Neg <- 2 white connectors on side
Neg - not sure what powers this connection, was showing continuity on 3rd top pin from big blue ac connector.


There are also 3 wires going to the relay block area, one light blue connector I didnt check and 2 white connectors, constant POS and defrost button NEG.

On the relay that click when you push button do you see a black/pink wire ? if yes voltage on it.

The two white connectors to the block of the relay control the relay.

Ones always positive, the other is NEG to the switch

The other 2 relay terminals seem to connect to wires on the black connector of the Ac unit.


One to a black/white stripe wire
one to a black / red stripe wire


The black/ red stripe has a 12v NEG when the switch is on, unless the fan switch is on too. Then it drops to 5v as does the black/ white wire.

The black /white terminal has 12v NEG, when the switch is on.

I pulled all the wires on the AC, and disconnected the driver side grid wire, there is still a ground.

With the wires pulled on the AC unit the black/white wire in the connector is also ground.

And the relay sends ground.

I'm lost lol.

so far I've traced the grounded ac/grid wire to the fuse panel.

Top middle connector on the back side

Its a light blue/ light green stripe wire. Any idea where this wire goes?

I'm not sure which post this was I don't see the starting topic.

The problem I'm having is all the related wires or relays I find for the rear defogger are grounded/NEG.

There's a relay on the back of the Ac control that sends 12v NEG to a blk/wht wire. When the button is on.

This wire goes to the lower middle connector on the rear side of the fuse panel.

Even when the relay is off or unplugged this wire is grounded by another wire on the top middle connector on the rear side of the fuse panel. lt is lt blue/lt green stripe wire.

The wire from the driver side grid is also blk/wht and it is also grounded, unplugged at the grid. It goes to a big yellow connector by the ignition harness.

Somewhere the two blk/wht wires connect, I cant see where, as they are wrapped up in the harness and go up under the dash, as does the lt blue/ lt green wire.

I've unplugged everything under the dash, BCM, every connector I can see, even pulled all the relays and fuses from the PCM etc.

The lt blue/lt green is always Grounded.

I'm totally confused why every part of this is NEG when the driverside grid needs POS to work.

One thing I can't find, is where the defog timer is, per the owners manaul there is a 10 to 5 minute timer. However the lit button never goes out.

After seeing a diagram, It appears the blue/green or yellow wire is for heated mirrors.

Which would explain the grounding on all the wiring.

Problem must be in the fusable link and relay sending negative =]

I'll rip into it later today and post an update.

So no power on blue/white wires? Yes will get ground on Ltblue/yellow.The blk/pink link is on right side engine compartment with others of different colors.See if power is on blk/pink at switch.

Was the fusable link wire.


Someone had cut it and left both ends there making it look connected.

Some other half Arse wire repair there too.

The link is still there, the wire was snipped in such a way that it appeared like it was still connected.

Whomever did it also totally cut out a pinkish or light colored wire that was attached to the battery with the defogger wire,

There is a red wire on the other side of the terminal now, and they butt spliced more red wire to make it longer. Not sure what this is powering.

Maybe the other wire fried and they cut both but forgot to fix the defogger wire.



Side note: JIC anyone else runs into these problems.

The owners manual lists fuse #1 as "heated power mirrors", but also says heated mirrors are (optional).

The description on the fuse panel cover is just "5A Power Mirrors".

Misleading , why I thought I didn't have the heated mirrors option.

Fuse #1 is only for the heater circuit to the mirrors. =]

The actual "Power Mirrors" power is on fuse #14

Also at least for this Candian model;

Wire listed as blk/pink is blk/red

The lt blue/yellow wire color for the mirror heaters is debatable. Looks lt blue/lt green to me.

I've read your tale. Same problem here in Pittsburgh. I pulled the left rear (driver's side) window trim and found that the ground wire from the grid was NEVER EVER connected to the car ground at the factory. I've still to locate the mysterious power relay ... but in my case it doesn't matter, as snapping the connector together made the system function. Just snowed this morning ... works fine now!
