2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager Replacing Rear Shock absorber w

2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager 4 cyl

I own a 2000 Voyager and recently the bolt securing the right rear shock to the Axle snapped and is stuck in the hole. I have tried using a drill and bolt extractor along with PB blaster to get it to loosen but it won't budge. I am afraid to use a butane torch because i have smelt gas from inside the van while driving. What can i do to get this bolt out of the threaded hole? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Drill. The bolt is not hardened. You might have to unbolt the brake backing plate to allow a straigtht shot with the drill. I keep a little cap of used engine oil to stick the drill bit into to keep it cool, and drill real slow. I watched a fellow once drill wide open and continually smoked the drill bits even after three people told him to slow down. He was showed how well the drill bit cut through the bolt at a slow speed, still, he refused to listen. Took him all day to drill out the bolt.

It helps a lot too if you have a bench grinder handy so you can keep the drill bit sharp.
