1993 Chrysler Concorde Front Wheel Drive Automatic

when i go to start the engine if the dummy lights and fuel guage don't come on the engine will still start but going down the road it won't shift out of 1st gear. everything works great if all the lights come on, once in a while it will go off (not the engine but the guages will shut off) going down the road and the whole car will buck and it will shift down to 1st gear.
i can keep turning the key and sometimes, when it wants to, the guages will come on and it works fine, but it's getting worse.
