1998 Chrysler Cirrus Battery sparks terrible after changing

Electrical problem
1998 Chrysler Cirrus 6 cyl Automatic 100000 miles

we changed out the alternator..and then proceeded to put a charged battery on and when connecting the neg cable to battery it sparked like crazy. We looked and the wire broke loose from the connector on the alternator. we repaired it by putting wire back in and clamping down the connector...and the battery still do the same thing..I have and amp and music in the car but they were not connected..please help..need to know what to do.

and yes the neg is black and positive is red..and I put back the ground neg attached to car under hood.

You might have a draw on the electrical system, was the battery going dead in a few hours or overnight? Check this link.

it appear you did not read my question right or read what we did already.. the battery was charged we took it to have it charged..since it was killed by the alternator not charging. the place that charged battery did strip the connectors..but still that should not have made the battery spark like crazy.

we brought a connector to put the wire in to connect to the alternator so with the wire fixed going to the harness clip in that clips into the alternator..cannot figure out why we cannot get the battery connected without it sparking to much...amps is unplugged , radio is out of car. and as you know battery is under left wheel well.

I think you may have misunderstood my post, Please click on the link this explains how to track down a short...if you are sparking more than the wee crackle of normal hookup, then something is ON or there may be a short circuit, or BOTH...

Thanks for the lay out..already had one of those..came with the car. However we found the problem..the amp was turned off but it was still drawing power..so we took it apart and out of the trunk. All is fine..and hooked amp back up. so the car is rolling..I knew it was not the battery or alternator. Thanks for trying anyway to help me.

I am sorry ..I saw that but I didn;t know what a draw was..my son and I do not know that much about cars. do to no job right now we have to resort to repairing it ourselves. In that case thanks for the help you were correct..the current was still transporting through the system..but funny after getting it all back together..the alternator was not bad either..it was the starter..and someone told me it would make clicking noise..well this one didn't..boy I do not like you all;s job working on cars..a headache..and I thought computers were :)/
