I had a choice to have the factory install an iPod connector, but decided not to since they wanted around $400 to connect it. I figured that a Best Buy or car audio shop could put in an aftermarket connector and I'd be fine.

After speaking with a number of stores I have found that no one has enough information to tell me what I need to purchase to connect it up. The dealers want to charge me even more than what the factory would've charged and Chrysler just directs me back to the dealer. Any chance I can get my hands on a service manual? My car has the upgraded Alpine 6-CD deck.

Those guys dont own an aspen, thus they know nothing! I own a 2007 Chrysler Aspen and and have noticed that even though it has a Bitchin alpine stereo in it, you cant really play your music loud because the minute the song hits some heavy base or a loud note the speakers go soft and it makes it really hard to enjoy your music, your way. I took my aspen to Radio Shack for answers on both the soft speaker problem and the Ipod connection and they said the soonest any after market components for an ipod connection in an aspen would be in July, they said pioneer would be the one to supply the gadgets needed to connect your Ipod to the OEM stereo!

This is getting too new for me, but in the 1990's, intermittent display was real common an the Chrysler radios built by Alpine. Some were a real quick fix. Some required substantial disassembly. The intermittent solder connections were due to automated manufacturing techniques that kept me busy in the TV repair shop for years. Once those problems were repaired, they were generally repaired for life.

Chrysler's better radios were built by Mitsubishi. Their CD / cassette combo radios are some of the highest-quality I've ever seen. I have one transplanted into my 1994 Grand Caravan right now. Those never had a display problem, but they had other intermittent problems that again, once repaired, never acted up again.

The fact that your display came back for a few minutes proves the problem is not due to a total failure of a part, like a blown fuse or burned resistor. A bad solder connection is a good suspect, but since I have never worked on one this new, I cannot tell you where to look. You might inquire at a local TV repair shop, if you can still find one. They wont be able to power the radio on their work bench, but they can look around for broken connections, and they may be able to run the radio from your dash wiring while they have it apart. A signal is needed from your car's Body Computer to tell the radio to turn on.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a non repairable problem. I would recommend having it looked at by a car audio shop.

Actually, I don't think this is a repairable problem. Chances are the radio needs replaced. Since you are still under warranty, I would recommend contacting the dealer and having them repair it under warranty.

When I most wanted to pass the time listening to my radio while waiting in line for gas after Hurricane Sandy.. it decides not to work. It worked fine yesterday, but today nothing, nada, zilch. Could it be so easy as a fuse? Dont want my ignorance to result in paying for things I dont need. Thanks.
