2007 Chrysler Aspen Gas Cap Warning Followed by Check Engin

It sounds like a leak in the EVAP system. IF the check engine light is on, take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free. Once you do that, let me know what you find.

The code came back PO457 Evaporator Emissions Leak -- what do you think?

I had a feeling that is what it was. Here is what you need to do. Take the vehicle to a shop that can fog the EVAP system. What they will do is pump (fog) into the system at a very low pressure (1 psi). From that, the system will leak the fog out where the problem is.

The reason I recommend doing it this way is because you will spend countless hours looking for a needle in a haystack. These leaks can be anywhere and they are nearly impossible to find without the proper tools.

Also, I want you to review your factory warranty. This is an emissions component and they do come with a longer than normal warranty. I can't remember if the mileage is 50K or 70K on your year vehicle. I do know it is a minimum of 5 years.

I didn't realize that the FLEX-Fuel option on my 2007 Chrysler Aspen required a special gas cap.

The one I tried from the local parts store obviously was not one of the special ones since they never asked me if it was FLEX-Fuel or not. Perhaps that's the why it didn't work.

So I ordered one through the dealer, to see if that works before I let them to check for a leak as you described.

I'll let you know what I find.
