Electrical problem
1987 Chrysler 5th Avenue V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

HEY GUYS I GOT A NEW ALTERNATOR AND HOOKED IT UP CORRECTLY AND TURNED ON THE ENGINE. THE VOLTAGE GAUGE WAS READING FINE BUT WHEN I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS THE VOLTS ON THE GAUGE WENT PASSED THE CHARGE LINES. SO I HELD THE GAS THERE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS THEN THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR STARTED SMOKING. SO I SHUT IT OFF. THE ALTERNATOR IS 90AMPS AND I DONT KNOW HOW MANY AMPS THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR CAN HANDLE. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR IS VR-38 I DONT KNOW IF IT MATTERS LIKE IF YOU BUY A 90AMP ALTERNATOR AND THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR IS 80AMPS I DONT KNOW IF IT WILL START SMOKING THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR. SO I PULLED OFF THE REGULATOR AND IT HAD SOME RUST ALONG THE EDGE SO I DONT KNOW PLEASE HELP ME
