my car is stuck in park, I can't shift into another position. What could be the problem.

First check all fuses. Then see if the brake lights work.If not the brake light switch is out. I have also seen the shifter itself go bad internally.So if all is ok, you will need to pop the top plate off the shifter and see if is all moving internally
