Since brake, shocks, and struts replacement last week by our trusted mechanic, we hear a chirping sound (not scraping) inside the car. The sound seems to be coming from the center/right area. This sound is heard clearly when we are traveling at 50 or more mph and steering wheel is straightforward. After test driving with mechanic he put car on lift and checked that nothing was rubbing and all was tight. The chirping is not so loud when only driver in car. Mechanic suspects caliper bushing or pin, but there are none of the caliper failure symptoms.

A shot in the dark,

In the past, not doing my thorough preventative maintenance as I should normally do,

I would be driving one of Jeep CJs, I would hear a chirping sound.

For me, it was the most audible when I let off of the gas and would coast.

The several times this happened (like years between, and I had forgotten the fix),

It turned out to be my universal joints.

They really don't have to be slap worn out (well worn is worn is replace!), What I mean is I've heard the chirp with little slop between the yokes. I reckon worse when there was lots of slop!

Pretty much, when the needle bearings became dry and began wearing out of tolerance all the way to the needles having rusted and crumbled out of it's cap.

It might just just be one cap or it might be several that have gone bad on the u-joint.

In my cases there was no magic revival greasing to fix it, it's been replacing the u-joints on both ends of the driveshaft.

Whatever you discover, please return here and let us know what it is. Others reading this may find they have the same issue.

The chirping turned out to be the top bolts of my recently replaced strut assembly on the right side of my Mazda. three out of four of the top bolts were not tight, but now they are and the chirping is gone. Thanks anyway for your thoughts.
